Abstract: <\/strong>The tutorial proposal focuses on the convergence of quantum threats in the domain of 6G networks. It aims to provide an in-depth study of this convergence, starting with background information on quantum attacks, post-quantum cryptography, and quantum key distribution. It will then explore its execution to 6G networks and their quantum-based threats. The tutorial will include a step-by-step demonstration of two of the demos to illustrate the practical implementation of these concepts. The tutorial is designed for participants with no prerequisite knowledge and aims to introduce them to the application of post-quantum cryptography and quantum key distribution to protect the 6G networks. As this topic is gaining significance and relevance in the telecommunications industry, the tutorial offers attendees the opportunity to learn about cutting-edge security issues for 6G networks and their specific applications from the cybersecurity perspective.<\/p>\n\n\n

Engin Zeydan<\/b>

Bio:<\/strong> Engin Zeydan<\/strong> received a PhD degree in February 2011 from the Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering at Stevens Institute of Technology, Hoboken, NJ, USA. Since November 2018, he has been with the Services as Networks (SaS) Research Unit of the CTTC working as a Senior Researcher. He was a part-time instructor at Electrical and Electronics Engineering department of Ozyegin University Istanbul, Turkey between January 2015 and June 2018. His research areas include data engineering\/science for telecommunication networks and network security.<\/p>\n\n\n

Abdullah Aydeger<\/b>
(FIT, USA)<\/p><\/div><\/div>\n\n\n\n

Dr. Abdullah Aydeger<\/strong> is currently an assistant professor at the Electrical Engineering and Computer Science Department at FIT. Prior to joining FIT in August 2022, he was an assistant professor at the School of Computing at Southern Illinois University, Carbondale, since 2020. Dr. Aydeger obtained a Ph.D. Degree in Computer and Electrical Engineering from Florida International University in 2020. His research interests are post-quantum cryptography, network security, and virtualization.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Title: Sustainable Computing: From Software Services Design to IoT-enabled Environmental Monitoring<\/em><\/mark><\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

Duration: 90 min<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Abstract: <\/strong>Sustainable computing involves the consideration of environmental aspects, either at the level of designed and implemented software and services, or at the application level, through monitoring of environmental factors with respective IoT technologies. The tutorial will focus on both aspects, initially presenting recent research advancements in measuring and quantifying design considerations and configuration of systems (messaging, devices etc), with substantial differentiation in the resulting consumed energy. Furthermore, it dives into IoT technologies that have the ability to reshape the management and operation of working environments. Specifically for Universities, given their extended societal and technological footprint, such facilities may act as significant catalysts in this process. The second part of the tutorial will focus on the experiences from the design, installation and initial operation of a Smart and Sustainable Campus environment at Harokopio University of Athens. Use cases will be presented with a three-fold approach, aiming to enhance the educational, research-oriented and operational needs of day to day activities. Issues with relation to the technical design, technology and sensor selection, daily sustainable operation are presented, as well as the first published activities that have been implemented by our students.<\/p>\n\n\n

George Kousiouris<\/b>
(Harokopio University of Athens, Greece)<\/p><\/div><\/div>\n\n\n\n

Bio: George Kousiouris<\/strong> is an Associate Professor at the Department of Informatics and Telematics of Harokopio University of Athens. He received his Dipl. Eng. in Electrical and Computer Engineering from the University of Patras, Greece in 2005 and his Ph.D. in Cloud Computing at the Telecommunications Laboratory of the Dept. of Electrical and Computer Engineering of the National Technical University of Athens in 2012. He has participated in numerous EU funded projects such as H2020 PHYSICS, H2020 BigDataStack, H2020 CloudPerfect, H2020 SLALOM, FP7 COSMOS among others. Since 2025 he is serving as the Director of the M.Sc. program “Advances in Computer Science and Information Systems”, the main postgraduate program of the Department of Informatics and Telematics. His interests are mainly cloud services, IoT platforms, performance evaluation, service level agreements and platform engineering. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
